Multiple use areas

Definition

A category of management for areas that can both provide protection to natural resource systems and to certain natural resources and yet contribute significantly to a nation's economic needs. Originally an IUCN protected area category (category VIII), defined in 1978. Now no longer used as an independent category but similar to the 1994 defined category VI - 'Sustainable Use of Natural Resources.'
