Ecosystem accounting

Description

Ecosystem accounting is a way of organising biophysical data on ecosystems and their components in order to examine the interactions between the economy and the environment through measuring the stocks and flows of environmental assets. 1 Ecosystem accounting allows the contributions of ecosystems to society to be expressed in monetary terms, making them easier to compare to goods and other services. The United Nations standard for ecosystem accounting is the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA). 2
